HardenThis

Terms of Service

Last updated · June 15, 2026

By creating an account or using HardenThis, you agree to these Terms. Please read the Acceptable Use and Skills & the Law sections carefully.

1. The service

HardenThis is an online platform for learning defensive cybersecurity through hands-on lab environments and academy content. It is currently free and provided in early access, which means features may change, break or be discontinued, and we do not guarantee that data created during this period will be preserved. Paid features, if introduced, would be governed by separate terms of sale.

2. Eligibility and your account

  • You must be at least 15 years old; minors need a parent or guardian’s consent.
  • Provide accurate information, keep your credentials confidential, and do not share your account.
  • You are responsible for all activity under your account.

3. Acceptable Use

Lab environments are isolated, temporary sandboxes provided solely for learning. You agree not to:

  • use the platform, or any access it provides, to scan, attack, or disrupt any system or network you do not own or are not explicitly authorised to test;
  • attempt to escape the sandbox, or interfere with the service, its security, or other users;
  • use the service for cryptomining, hosting, spam, or any unlawful or abusive activity;
  • upload illegal content, or content that infringes others’ rights;
  • overload, automate, or scrape the service, or resell or copy it except as permitted by law.

Breaches may lead to immediate suspension or termination, and unlawful conduct may be reported to the authorities.

4. Lab environments and assumption of risk

Labs are deliberately insecure training systems. By using them you understand and accept that they contain intentional vulnerabilities and misconfigurations, that they exist only inside the provided sandbox, and that you must not rely on any technique, output, or result from a lab as being safe to apply to a real system without your own verification.

5. Skills, tools and the law

Everything taught here is for defence and authorised testing only. Applying what you learn to systems you do not own, or are not explicitly permitted in writing to test, is illegal in most countries and is your sole responsibility. You are also responsible for complying with any law in your jurisdiction that restricts security tools, techniques, or related content (including export-control or dual-use rules). The publisher provides education and is not a party to, and accepts no responsibility for, what you do outside the platform.

6. Intellectual property

The platform and its content belong to the publisher or its licensors. You receive a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the service for your own learning. The ratings and feedback you submit remain yours, and you grant us a licence to host and display them as needed to run the service.

7. No warranty

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, for educational purposes only. It is not professional security advice, an audit, or a certification, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. Nothing here limits your mandatory rights as a consumer.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, loss of data or profits, or damage resulting from your misuse of the service or breach of these Terms. Nothing excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Your responsibility

To the extent permitted by applicable law, and without affecting your mandatory consumer rights, you are responsible for, and agree to hold the publisher harmless from, any claim, loss, or cost arising from your breach of these Terms or your unlawful or unauthorised use of the service.

10. Suspension and changes

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend access in case of breach, and we may modify the service or these Terms; for material changes we will take reasonable steps to inform you. Continued use after a change means acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. General

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in full effect. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, are the entire agreement between you and the publisher regarding the service. They are governed by French law, without prejudice to the mandatory protections you enjoy as a consumer. Questions: [email protected].
